14 year old Rocks in Wittenburg
Peter Henke wins the sponsoree Young Talent Summer Camp
Wittenburg (sgh) - In a group of kids the same age, the 14 year old Peter Rheiner Henke would be easy to spot as he is a head smaller than all the rest. But as soon as the young Ingelheimer gets on his Mountain Bike, he grows wings. Peter rocks so easy over the dirt jumps that he makes most of the older bikers turn green with envy. Even though ´Pete´ sticks out due to his talent and outgoing personality, he ended up winning the Weekend sponsoree Young Talent Summer Camp by Niels-Peter Jensen.
Also the competitors of the sponsoree Young Talent Summer Camp were plagued with bad weather. Never the less they at least had a bit of time to train at the new Bike Fun Park in Wittenburg before it was flooded out by a mean rain storm. But one competitor stuck out from the beginning until the end: the 14 year old Peter Rheiner Henke from Ingelheim. `Peter really impressed me´, said Niels-Peter Jensen. `Not only that he is very talented or that he can master so many tricks for his age, but also that he learns quickly and can put into practice positive feedback. Alone the fact that he improved his Backflips in just one day of training, Unreal.
`Pete´ as his friends call him, used to be a skateboarder. One day in a Skate Park he met a few Mountain Bikers and tried to jump like them with his bike. When he was 8 years old he met local hero Marco Giersdorf, who took him under his wing. `Through the help of Marco I learned really early to ride very extreme´, said Peter. `We were always on the move and I learned a lot from him´. The Ingelheimer has already won a number of small contests. At 13 he was rated 2nd overall in the `The Cut´ of the Amateur Class . `The reason being is that very few entered both the contests in Wittenburg and in Illmenau`, Peter said modestly. The 14 year old didn’t reckon with winning the sponsoree Young Talent Summer Camp. `There are so many good Mountain Bikers and so many that can do more than I can. But I’m really glad. For me it’s a dream come true to be sponsored by NPJ Dirt Bikes, sponsoree.com and Adidas. With biking a lot of material gets damaged and because I’m still at school, it takes a long time to save´.
Peter is in Class 9 at his Junior High School. His favourite subject is English. `Because I find it easy´, he says. Before he used to play Handball, but that didn’t fit into his timetable and bike riding was his top priority. The best at the sponsoree Young Talent Summer Camp for Peter was the warm reception he received and the Jam Session with the competitors at the Young Talent Slope Style on Saturday night. He has only been injured once. `There I wasn’t the brightest and jumped a big dirt jump with a children’s bike. I got a nasty head concussion. I can’t remember much of that day but I sure did learn a lesson. When you do dumb things, you will easily get hurt´.
